How to Negotiate Your Salary

San Antonio Career Coach | Business Coaching | Personal CoachingYou are the number one candidate and have been offered a job.  This means that the employer has identified you as the best person for the position and the company.  This puts you in a position to negotiate a strong compensation package.  This is a very important part of the hiring process so don’t take it lightly.  You will have to live with the salary that you accept and may not be able to negotiate a higher pay later.  Here are tips to help you get the top salary in your field.

  • Visit websites like Indeed.com and Salary.com and do some research on competitive salary for your industry and position.
  • Wait for the employer to offer a dollar amount.  Don’t be the first to give a number.
  • Be prepared to counter-offer by emphasizing your skills, experience and how you will move the company in the direction they want to go.
  • Be willing to compromise.  If the offer is below your expectation, ask for other perks like bonuses, benefits and vacation.

Follow these tips to negotiate the top salary you desire and deserve.
