There are many companies and jobs in the market place. To make the best use of your time when searching for employment you need to develop a strategy. Before you start connecting on LinkedIn, go to Monster.com or CareerBuilder and start sending out resumes, take some time to think about what type of company interests you the most. In most cases you have a good feel for what you can offer an employer so let’s focus on the type of company you want to work for. Do you want to work for a small family owned business or a large corporation? There are pros and cons for each. Make a list of the pros and cons for each type of company structure and see which one fits you best.
Here are tips for searching for the companies that fit you best:
- Do your homework. You can learn a lot about a company by going to their website. What new projects do they have? What is their involvement in the community? What is their company mission or vision statement?
- Check to see if they have a Better Business Bureau (BBB) profile. This information can give you an insight to how they treat their customers. Are there a lot of complaints against the company? Are they in good standing with the BBB?
- Find your connections on networking sites as well to see what type of projects others are doing as you review the profiles.
- Visit their Facebook and Twitter pages to learn about their culture, environment and any news about the company.
Follow these tips to determine the companies that are the best fit for you and add them to your target list. This way you will only focus on the companies that interest you the most and make the best of your job search.
