You are so excited that you have been asked to interview for a position you applied for recently. Now you need to prepare for that interview. Your chances of being offered the job is greater if you have a good interview. The key to a good interview is preparation. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your interview.
- Research the company. Go to their website and find out their core products and services. Get a feel of their environment and culture. This information will help you answer questions related to their business.
- Review the behavioral-based interview questions you will most likely be asked. Practice your STAR Method responses. The STAR Method is a way of responding by discussing the specific Situation (S), Task (T), Action (A), and Result (R) of the situation you are describing.
- Present yourself in a positive manner. Arrive early, dress professionally, smile, speak clearly, have a good handshake, and make good eye contact.
- Have a few copies of your resume and samples of your work if applicable.
- Make sure you ask for a business card so you can send a thank you note. Send your thank you note 24 to 48 hours after your interview.
Job interviews are stressful but if you are prepared, you will be more relaxed, and be successful in having a good interview, and landing the job!
